New school build update: 24 May 2017

Dear Parents and members of the local community.

Over the past few weeks you may have seen various information in the press or from local political parties regarding the future planned relocation of Cornerstone School. We have recently met with Hampshire County Council for an update on the latest situation and would like to take this opportunity to let you know the latest available information.

As you will probably be aware we have been planning with HCC for Cornerstone to relocate to a permanent site as part of the new development of North Whiteley in September 2019. However this plan has always be dependent on the legal agreements (Section 106) being signed by HCC, Winchester City Council, the developers and other parties. As yet this has not happened. In order for Cornerstone to relocate as planned the legal agreements need to be signed over the Summer and ecological work needs to start on the site by the middle of the Autumn. In addition the developers need to start development work on the site by the end of 2017 as this is the trigger for the new Cornerstone site to be handed over to HCC in the Spring of 2018.

I would like to assure you that HCC and the Governing Body are committed to the relocation of Cornerstone School but the timing is dependent on the above. There is a realistic possibility that if these timings are missed the relocation will be delayed by 12 months or more. We hope and pray that this delay doesn’t materialise, however it is a real possibility.

I would like to reassure you that Cornerstone School is permanent (although located at present on a temporary site). Cornerstone School will continue on the present site as a one form entry Primary school until such time as our new permanent site is available. Cornerstone will continue to strive to offer the best education to all children, both those who are already pupils and those who will join us in coming years.

Be assured we will continue to update you when we have any further official information from HCC.

Yours sincerely

Sandy Matheson

Chair of Governors
